Hi guys---quick question----does anyone know if there are walking workouts you can purchase/download for you IPOD?? I have been walking with my DH's and I love it.....but started to think that a good walking workout would be fun. I have a few on cassette and I enjoy them. I looked in the Itunes store, but didn't see anything...anyone???

I haven't found anything, but I am married to a DJ, and it's all about beats per minute.

I'm bugging him to make me a CD that I can upload to iTunes for walking on the treadmill. I'll keep you in mind and when he gets the songs together I'll pass them on to you. At least you could down load songs that you know will be a good pace for walking.

Ooh, that's a great idea. I just Googled "mp3 workout" and a bunch of interesting-sounding links came up:

Cotygirl, that would be great -- I would love to redo some "running mixes" I used to make when I was in college and have them all be the right beats per minute!

There are some Nike treadmill workouts on iTunes, but I think most of them are for running. I have a few and love them, they guide you on how to to an interval workout without you having to think too much about it. The BPM are dead on for rest and sprints, so it works out well. There is also the Cardio Coach CD's, the music isn't as good, but I like the coach better. You can hear a demo of those on http://www.cardiocoach.com. Sorry I don't know of any for walking, but I bet there are some out there.

I haven't really looked through this site yet, but I remember bookmarking it a few months ago. You can search by BPM, so getting those mixes perfect would be easier. http://www.jogtunes.com/JTCtunes.php

Do a search for "fitPOD.com" (it is in the PODCast section under Health and Nutrition) at the iTunes store, Actually I got there by searching using "exerice playlists". There seems to be a bunch of stuff that might work there although much of it is pretty fast. It is arranged with bpm shown so you can pick what works for you. Best of all it is all free.

And it is a reference to the website FitPOD.com where it appears there is a ton of iPOD related fitness "stuff".

Dont'cha just love your iPOD.

The February issue of Shape magazine has a walking article "Walk this Way" that includes a 40 minute playlist. Go to shape.com/playlists to down load this mix and others.

Am I missing something? The Shape site says the download is free but when I get iTunes open by clicking on their link, all the songs have a price as does the entire playlist. Or is it only the one song at the top of the Shape Playlist page that is free?

try d/l to your pc... then open your itunes and load from the file you created...
haven't seen site so no clue if it will work, but bypassing direct links can save you a small fortune!

The link for the playlist is simply a redirect to the iTunes Store, no way to right click and download (you just get the redirect link not the files). I suspect the only free tune is the one at the top in a box, which you can right click/download.

Or at least that is what it seems to be.

I created a playlist called "Brisk Walking" and put my favorite upbeat songs on it. It works great! I even loaned it to a fellow co-worker for his run one day when he forgot his iPod and he enjoyed it, too.

Why buy music when you can make your own music?

Speaking of making your own walking playlist, I read an article not too long ago, maybe in Woman's World, that talks about this. They said it is best if you have 9 or 10 songs alternating in BPM so you build up to fast, toggle between fast as you can stand it and comfortable fast, then cool down. I've done this with my mp3 player and I can change the songs when I get tired of the ones I've got without having to spend more money...
